OMG: Legendary actor confirms his return to Neighbors after 2 months of leaving – bringing the audience to tears

Actor Ryan Moloney broke viewers’ hearts when he left Neighbours in September.

But the fan favourite is now set to return to the long-running soap as his much-loved character Jarrod ‘Toadfish’ Rebecchi later this month.

Moloney, 44, announced in June he was leaving the show after playing the part for 30 years.

However, leaked photos on industry blog Digital Spy showed Maloney filming upcoming episodes on Wednesday.

In one image, the actor was seen sharing a scene with Jackie Woodburne, who plays Susan Kennedy on the soap.

He also filmed a scene with his on-screen wife Terese (played by actress Rebekah Elmaloglou).

Meanwhile, it appears another storyline will involve Toadie’s daughter Nell (played by Scarlett Anderson) celebrating her 16th birthday.

It comes after Moloney revealed his surprising new career as a beekeeper last month.

A passionate advocate for sustainability, Moloney lives off-the-grid in Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula where his family generate their own power and water.

In October, he told Yahoo Lifestyle he has become more involved in beekeeping since leaving Ramsay Street behind.

‘The bees started as a hobby and quickly turned into a small business,’ he said.

‘I love how in tune you have to be when working with them, and the puzzles they give you on each inspection,’ the TV star added.

Earlier this year, Ryan announced he and Toadie will be bidding farewell to the long-running drama series.

He shared the devastating news with fans in a video shared to the Neighbours Instagram page as he detailed his next steps in his career.

‘After 30 years playing Toadie, I will be leaving Ramsay Street. I can’t tell you what is happening to the character — maybe I could be the next Jim Robinson,’ he wrote.

‘Or maybe I’ll be the next Harold Bishop and keep popping back over the years.’

Moloney said he is not stepping away from TV altogether and will continue to work behind the camera after recently completing a director training course.

‘Although I won’t be bringing you our fantastic storylines from in front of the camera, I will be bringing them to you from the other side, behind the camera,’ he went on.

‘I’ve just started director training and have just finished filming my first episode as director so I really hope that you enjoy that.’

He concluded: ‘Thank you all for the love that you have shown me and Toadie over the years. I’m going to miss you, and I’m going to miss him and I’m going to miss Erinsborough.’

His shock exit comes one year after Neighbours returned to screens on Amazon Freevee, not long after the show was cancelled and the finale aired on Network 10 in July 2022.

Maloney has become one of the most recognisable faces on Neighbours since first appearing on Ramsay Street as Toadie back in 1995.
